V HOW TO USE AND CARE FOR YOUR VIDEOART'" ACTIVITY CARTRIDGE“ USING YOUR ACTIVITY CARTRIDGE: 1 ♦ Be sure that the “Power On” indicator is off before plugging the cartridge in the VideoArt. 2. Plug in the cartridge label side up (see drawing). 3* Press the power button so that the red “Power On” indicator light is on. 4. The title “page” of the cartridge will appear on the screen for 20 or so seconds or until you press both clear buttons at the same time. CARING FOR YOUR ACTIVITY CARTRIDGE — Precautions: 1. This is precision electronic software. It should not be stored in a ptece that is very hot or cold. Never hit it or drop it. Do not take it apart anc never force it into the VideoArt unit. 2. Avoc touching the connectors, do not get them wet or dirty. Doing so may damage the cartridge. 3. Do not dean with benzene, paint thinner, alcohol or other such solvents WHAT YOU WILL SEE... After the title page of your VideoArt cartridge you will see the first page and you can immediately start to color. When the page you would like to color appears on the screen, use your color selector to either pick a color you want to use or to change the background color of the drawing. As you draw, the picture fills in, like the pictures you see above. When you are finished you can either turn the page to start a new drawing or save your artwork by recording it on video tape! Fire truck We ve all seen firetrucks speeding down the street with their lights flashing and their sirens blaring, but most of us actually know very little about these br ghtly colored vehicles. Did you know that the first fire engines were nothing more than horse-drawn wagons with a 2-man, hand-operated water pump on top and that the first volunteer fire department was organized by Ben Franklin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Today there are volunteer and professional fire¬ fighters n every city around the world and there are firetrucks that can go as fast as 130 m.p.h. You can be a fireman and drive a firetruck when you grow up, too. Police Car A police car could be the fastest and most exciting car on the road today. That is because today’s police cars have everything from super turbo-charged en¬ gines, to dashboard mounted computers to bullet¬ proof windows. Most police cars have a red and blue flashing light bar on top and a big, bold design on the hood and doors, but some, called undercover cars, look just like your family’s car and are used to surprise the criminal. Police cars have come a long way from the Model T Ford and the big black sedans of the “Untouchables.” Locomotive Trains played a very important part in the history of America. Until the trains started running, very few people dared to travel out west. If you were on horseback or in a wagon train you had to worry about hostile Indians, bad weather, crossing moun¬ tains and rivers or fighting off all sorts of robbers. On a train you could just sit back and enjoy the ride ... except for an occasional train robbery. Today, most trains are used for carrying freight, but many companies are introducing luxurious, streamlined trains to try and get people to travel by train again. 4x4 Sometimes a resular car or truck just can't do the job. Maybe the hill is too steep or the snow is too deep or the road is too roush. That’s when you need a 4x4. Did you know that the name 4x4 refers to the fact that each of the 4 wheels drives independently of the others. Power is supplied to every wheel, unlike most cars that only have 2 wheel drive, and this is what allows a 4-wheel drive vehicle to climb and travel almost anywhere. The best part about it thoush is that today’s 4x4’s are fast, too... so now they have everything, power and speed. Jeeps -eeos are the perfect recreational vehicle... just the thins for camping, fishing or just driving off the road. Because each of its wheels is driven independently, it is almost impossible to get stuck in a 4 x 4. The first jeeps were built in the 1930’s and used by the Army to help cross rough terrain. Destroyer The Navy uses many different types of ships to help defend our country from attack by sea. This one is called a Destroyer because of its huge size and awesome firepower. It is used to protect other ships in the fleet such as aircraft carriers and tankers, but it ks also capable of shelling targets on land. Tanks The first tanks were very heavy, slow and not very accurate. Today’s tanks are much different. They require highly skilled teams to properly operate them. Did you know that they have computers on board and are capable of travelling at high speeds and shooting so accurately that they hardly ever miss? Jets If you need to get someplace far away in a real hurry, a jet plane is the only way to go. Today’s jets go faster than the speed of sound and are used by the military in addition to carrying people and cargo everyday. Did you ever think about being a jet pilot? Hot Air Balloon On a sunny day in 1783, in Europe, two brothers flew the first hot air balloon up into the sky. Since that time millions of people, scientists, sportsmen and just plain folks like us have gotten into the basket of a hot air balloon and gone for a silent ride into the sky. That basket is called a gondola and it is mounted right underneath the burner that makes the hot air that fills the balloon. The more hot air you put into the balloon the higher it takes you and if you stop filling the balloon with hot air, it drops. It’s not easy flying a hot air balloon, but it sure is fun. Helicopters Helicopters can do many things that other aircraft can’t do. They can take off and land vertically, stop in mid air and fly horizontally in any direction. They can do these things because of the special engines and propellers that helicopters are equipped with. 'Copters have always been used widely by the mili¬ tary, but today they are also very popular in every¬ day use. Radio and T.V. stations use them to observe traffic, airlines use them for short trips from city to city and the police and coast guard use them for search and rescue missions. Helicopters maybe noisy but they sure are useful. Space Shuttle The space shuttle is a multi-purpose space vehicle which is the first of its kind. No other space craft has been able to orbit the Earth and return in one piece before. The shuttle is lifted into orbit on the back of a rocket ship, which falls away and leaves the shuttle alone. As it re-enters the earth’s atmosphere it is protected from the burning heat by special tiles which form a shell over it, then it glides to a special airstr o and lands much like any other airplane.
